Strengthening Brotherhood and upholding traditions – Grand Master Installation Speech
Dear Ladies & Friends, Most Worshipful Grandmasters, Distinguished East,
Brethren all,
I stand before you today with humility and profound gratitude as the craft elected me as Grand Master of the American Canadian Grand Lodge. This honor is not mine alone but one I share with all those who have guided, supported, and shaped me on this journey.
First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire installation team. Your work, dedication, and passion have made this special moment for all of us possible. You have not only orchestrated this ceremony with precision but have also embodied the spirit of our brotherhood so beautifully.
Our elected line is very young — not just in age, but in spirit, in energy, and in vision. We still will honor our ancient traditions while also embracing the future with open hearts, open minds and meeting the current Zeitgeist.
But beyond youth, we carry with us something even more meaningful: a reflection of the true beauty of Freemasonry—our diversity. Among us are Brothers with roots in Turkey, the United States, Germany, and France. Together, we are a living testament to what unites us as Freemasons: not our nationality, not our language, but our shared values, our common light, and our unwavering commitment to brotherhood.
I also want to express my gratitude to each and every brother who has supported, mentored, and – just as importantly – challenged me over the years. Your wisdom, constructive criticism, and unwavering support have molded me into the individual I am today. Without you, this journey would not have been possible.
A very special thank you goes to my father. Dear father, you have been and continue to be an indispensable compass in my life – always by my side with advice and unwavering support. Your example paved the way for me to join Freemasonry, and your values and principles inspire me every day.
There is someone in this room who is just more than a friend. You’ve been a Brother in the deepest sense — through joy and hardship, laughter and reflection. Your friendship has been a constant light, and your wisdom… a compass guiding me through uncertain waters.
You’ve never asked for recognition, but it’s only right that I give it to you — openly, and from the heart. This plaque is just a small symbol of a much greater truth: that your presence in my life has made it better, fuller, and more meaningful. Thank you, Right Worshipful Brother Cameron Davis.
Above all, I want to thank my loving wife, Begüm, and my daughter, Mila. You are my strength, my anchor, and my home. Your patience, understanding, and support make all of this possible for me. I know the coming years will demand even more from you, and yet you stand steadfastly by my side today. For that, I am beyond grateful.
Begüm, your patience and understanding are a quiet but powerful force in my life. You hold so much together behind the scenes, often without recognition, and yet you do it all with grace. You believe in me—even when I doubt myself—and you carry so much of our shared journey on your shoulders with unwavering strength.
My brethren, my motto is: “Strengthening Brotherhood and upholding traditions.” This is not just a motto; it is a guiding star. Our brotherhood is the core, the heart of what Freemasonry represents. It is our unity that makes us strong. It is our traditions that provide us with direction and purpose.
My vision is clear and straightforward: “Make Freemasonry Great Again.” This is not a political statement but a call to action for all of us to make Freemasonry modern, vibrant, and joyful once again. We must rediscover the pleasure of being Freemasons and share that joy with the world. Yet, we must never forget that our landmarks – the principles that have carried us for over 300 years – are our foundation. They offer us security and stability in an ever-changing world.
Today, I would like to dedicate this celebration to a man whose leadership, example, and dedication to Freemasonry have been an inspiration to us all: Most Worshipful Past Grand Master Paul Curran. His contributions to the American Canadian Grand Lodge are immeasurable, and I honor him by pledging to carry forward his work with the same spirit and commitment. The Turkish brothers use to say: NOTHING DIES, EVERYTHING LIVES.
Brethren, let us come together to strengthen Freemasonry, deepen our brotherhood, and uphold our traditions. The challenges ahead may be great, but our potential is greater. Together, we can achieve anything. During turbulent times men seek calmness in their live.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your trust, your support, and your brotherhood. May the light of Freemasonry continue to guide and illuminate our path.
Thank you.
Fraternally and sincerely,
Arda Çilingir
Grand Master
